Catch Reports: Alderney 1 2011

Our first Alderney trip of 2011 and our first time in April. Day 1 and we visited some wrecks on the way across channel. Sam had trawled up some live sandeels so we had some excellent sport with over 50 pollack coming to the net. The further south we went the bigger the fish got with the best coming just 10 miles from Alderney. Day 2 & 3 were spent exploring the banks for turbot and brill. We had excellent numbers of fish despite the chill NE winds which certainly affected the mornings on both days. The size of the fish was smaller than we had seen later on in previous years and a high percentage were returned to grow into monsters! Day 4 and an early start to fish the wrecks on teh way back to Poole. Our fish cod of the year with the best going 22lb, a pair of 17lb ling and some medium size congers at anchor. An enjoyable start to our Alderney 2011 campaign. There are still 2 spaces in August Saturday 20 - Tuesday 23 if you would like to experience a trip like this...
