British Cod Championships 15-16 November 2006

It was a real pleasure to be invited to join in this pregtigious competition organised by the West Wight Charter Skippers headed by Dave Stephenson (Becky M).

The first day was fished in the solent due to strong SW winds that would have led to cancellation in any other venue. Silver Spray managed to miss the cod but we did have a nice 6lb bass for Cliff Newbold:

Day 2 and the wind had dropped having blown hard all night. The fleet headed outside of the solent and all boats fished past the needles. Silver Spray had a good selction of congers to 40lb, bass, pollack and yes even a nice cod. Mike Jacobs from Warren SAC with 10lb cod, 7lb bass and collecting his prize....

Top boat in the competition was Random Harvest from Poole skippered by Andy Adams who did a wonderful job to find 5 cod. His prize was a load of electronics from Raymarine which will be really useful for his new boat to be launced early in 2007. Good job Andy!!

November trips

Still unseasonable warm weather but some nice fish showing on the rock marks...
Paul White-Harris with 12 and10lb pollack caught on bait
Simon Alcock from Southampton with a nice 10lb small eyed ray
Theo Stickley with a 28lb conger which had formerley lost about 6" of its tail. Obviously something eats congers!
